For my first solo exhibition at Huisje Doek in Bergen, I brought together a carefully curated selection of works that, although made in several independent series, share a common tension. I wanted to construct a particular atmosphere, one in which the works could alter the meaning of one another through proximity.

I selected works that circle around moments of surrender: the instant in which something gives itself over to another force, willingly or otherwise. A body yields to desire; a creature is drawn towards its own danger; a person accepts what cannot be escaped. Per example In Amo, attraction becomes an enclosure, while in Odi devotion and destruction occupy the same gesture. The Night Moth follows a similar pull towards something beautiful that may also consume. Across the exhibition, desire is therefore never entirely innocent. It carries with it the possibility of dissolution.

Alongside these works, I placed images concerned with transformation and decay. This was achieved by capturing in the distance that can persist within intimacy. Where physical closeness does not dissolve psychological separation. Together, the works form a closed circulation rather than a resolution.

Together, these works allowed me to construct an exhibition that moves between desire and restraint, intimacy and estrangement, violence and tenderness, presence and disappearance. I wanted the paintings to remain unresolved, to hold their contradictions rather than explain them. The exhibition became a space where sweetness could emerge from decay, where closeness could contain distance, and where looking at something could never quite be separated from the possibility of losing it.
