Participating in The Visionary’s Tarot project offered me an opportunity to explore how to create within a framework of inherited symbols. The project brought together artists whose individual interpretations of traditional tarot cards form a collective deck, a reflection of how artistic growth is shaped not only through individual practice, but through the exchange of ideas, perspectives, and experiences.

For my contribution I chose to design the Seven of Swords. It became a meditation on deception, moral ambiguity, and the changing nature of theft. Rather than depicting the traditional thief carrying away his swords, I imagined a contemporary figure: a man whose polished appearance and flamboyant business attire conceal a more troubling intention. His clothing gradually transforms into the drapery of Christian iconography, placing modern ambition within the visual language of faith, guilt, and moral consequence.

Drawing on Christian Baroque painting techniques, particularly the illumination of Saint Matthew and the sorrow of Mary, the work explores separation, compromised trust, and the tension between outward appearance and inner conscience. Through these layers of symbolism, I seek to make ancient narratives feel immediate.
